Here is an outline of what differentiates Office 2019 from O365 Pro Plus from a student’s perspective:

 

Office 2019:

·         This version of Office can be downloaded after placing an order at software.unc.edu

o   Specifically https://software.sites.unc.edu/software/microsoft-products/

·         Students only get one download of Office 2019 from our service provider (OnTheHub) during their time at UNC.

o   They can however, get it installed at our walk-in office (when it reopens) as many times as necessary while they have an active affiliation.

o   (And depending on what our software office said, they might be able to keep the installer file and use it again in the future).

·         If Kenan-Flagler Business School (KFBS) students get sent back a page or stuck in a loop while logging in through the Software Distribution Student Ordering link, it’s because they don’t have an email address in the directory.

o   To fix that issue, they will need to login to ConnectCarolina, click on the Personal Information tab, and then add a business email address.

o   They can enter the first part of their KFBS email and select the KF domain from the dropdown menu, then click Save.

o   Once that’s been saved, it takes about 15 minutes to sync to the directory.

o   After that time has passed, they should be able to access the Software Distribution Student Ordering portal as expected.

·         If a student is installing Office 2019 on an Apple Mac, they will need to take additional steps to make sure that it can be activated properly.

·         Finally, because Office 2019 is not subscription-based, the installation will continue working even after the students affiliation with the university is removed and their Onyen is expired.

 

O365 Pro Plus:

·         This version of Office can be downloaded by following the instructions here: https://uncch.service-now.com/sp?id=kb_article&sys_id=1507ab72dbb6ff00227afe213996191f

·         Students will need to login with a UNC email address (not KFBS) and their Onyen password

o   If they do not have a UNC email address, they can request one by logging in with their Onyen and password at https://selfservice.unc.edu and clicking on the Email Sign-up button, then entering in an existing email address

o   Once their request is processed (typically within an hour) they will receive a notification and login instructions at the email address they provided

·         Because O365 Pro Plus is subscription-based and tied to the student’s Onyen, it will only remain activated until the Onyen is expired (roughly six months after the student graduates or leaves the university)
